If you do hire one of our students as an intern, the student may be enrolled in an elective course called Internship. Not all our student interns take this course or are required to take this course. We offer this course so that students can get course credit for the internship, should they wish, or need the credits.

If the intern you hire is enrolled in the Internship course, then we ask the firm provide the following for our student:

• a licensed Interior Designer or Architect supervise our student intern
• the supervisor evaluate the student using the course evaluation form
• the firm allow the student to make a power point presentation about their work experience. (No private information need to be shown in the powerpoint)
• employ the intern a minimum of 144 hours over at least an 8 week period of time
• during the fall and spring semester limit the employment to between 12 and 20 hours per week

If the intern you hire is enrolled in the Internship course, then we ask that a licensed Interior Designer or Architect supervise our student intern. The supervisor will be responsible for evaluating the student’s performance using the course’s evaluation form.

Thus, the firm’s intern-supervisor and the intern should meet at the beginning of the internship and go over the evaluation forms and review the criteria for evaluation. The student and supervisor should also be aware that the student will produce a PowerPoint presentation about their work experience. Reviewing presentation requirements for the course will insure that both the student and supervisors understand about the type of information the student may need to complete the internship requirements.

We ask firms to employ the intern a minimum of 144 hours over at least an 8 week period in order to ensure that interns observe enough of the design process occurring in an office to earn the academic credit for the course. Students can certainly work more hours than the minimum and for a longer period of time, however, we ask that firms who employ students during the fall and spring semester limit the employment to between 12 and 20 hours per week, in order to give students time to concentrate on studio and subject area courses as well.
